2017/04/19・Day 223・Death, Taxes, and Udemy

In the fourth episode of The Mirodim Podcast, I talk about being dead for seven months, cheap tutorials, tax returns, and film adaptations.

If you have a question you would like me to read out loud on the podcast, leave it below!

Thanks to @UserSigon, @Dilandoubishop, @ValterValyun, @CoryPlays, and @GumGums for the podcast questions! Additional thanks to @Phil124 for checking up on me in my absence.

Music: "-Space pirates-" by Waterflame. Check out his stuff, and follow him on Newgrounds!

I'm not dead! (Yet.)

So, I've been away for a couple of months. Mostly because I've been so busy with school and life things happening that drawing has taken a backseat for a while.

I was planning on posting again some time this week, but I had a little computer trouble...

After spending a whole day off trying to figure out what the issue was, turns out it was a bad motherboard. Luckily, I had a spare, so my computer is just about up and running again.

More updates soon, PLUS a new episode of the Mirodim Podcast! If you've posted a question already, don't worry I'll be answering all of them. If you haven't, I can never have too many!

2016/09/21・Day 13・Gestures, Games, and Gay Girls

I had a lot of material for the podcast, so I decided to do it again this week. These may keep coming more frequently than I expected! Also, I said my intro music was called "miniclear", but it's actually called "clear".

If you have a question you would like me to read out loud on the podcast, leave it below!

This episode features questions from @Exe928, @CoryPlays, @dilandoubishop, and @Keem16 with music from @UserSigon.

You've Gotta Flail Before You Can Crawl

2016-09-19 02:39:33 by Mirodim

2016/18/14・Day 10・"You've Gotta Flail Before You Can Crawl"

Right now, my goal is to draw for AT LEAST 45 minutes a day. I'll do more on nights that I'm not particularly tired. Since my last blog post, @SuperBastard and @Template88 got me doing these gesture drills. They're really challenging, but I feel like I'm absorbing good information. Most of my practice this week has consisted of gesture drills, with the occasional doodling or circle drills mixed in. The image above is an exaple of my results. If you want to see more, I have uploaded two gifs showcasing all 19  of the other drills I've done this week. (Note: They contain nudity!)

In other news, I was recently scouted for the audio portal by @VulpesHilarianus, so all podcast episodes will now be downloadable. (Could have implemented this through other means, but thankfully that isn't necessary anymore!) I had a lot of fun with the first episode, so I'll probably do another one before the end of the week. I have some interesting ideas for it. If you have a question that you would like me to read on the podcast, you can post it here or on any of my other blog entries!

That's pretty much it for now. I'll keep at it and post more in a few days.

2016/09/14・Day 6・"The Mirodim Podcast Has Begun!"

Alright, so I have my new tablet in-hand, and I just got done recording the first episode of The Mirrodim Podcast. Check it out and leave me a comment telling me what you think! I'm open to feedback, suggestions for content, or just hearing what's on your mind.

This episode features music from @AliceMako, as well as questions from @Exe928 (sorry I read your name wrong!), @GreenSoap, @zornuzkull, @TurkeyOnAStick, @penis-plant, @ZJ, @stafffighter, @TheGamechanger, @Decky, @VenomationsTV, @FastbootsZA, and @SadisticAphid60.

I'm currently working on getting used to my tablet and getting some art uploaded. I'll be looking forward to your critiques, so keep an eye out!

So I'm Doing a Podcast...

2016/09/11・Day 3・"So I'm Doing a Podcast..."

I said that I probably wasn't going to post again today, but I just had a really interesting idea. I've always wanted to do some kind of podcast, and I think it'll be a good way to offer a little something extra for those who DO follow me, despite the art starting out pretty rough. I have a lot of experience with audio and video editing, so the production quality should be pretty decent.

If you're new here, I recommend going back and reading my first journal entry. It'll tell you a little about me, and hopefully generate some questions. I'm shooting for a 10-15 minute recording, uploaded before the end of this week. I'll do these monthly or so if the response if good. Maybe more, who knows?

Ask your questions below!

A Moment of Reflection

2016-09-11 00:05:28 by Mirodim

2016/09/10・Day 2・"A Moment of Reflection"

The USPS tracking info says that my drawing tablet should get here on Monday, so I'm already mentally preparing myself to start warming up to my new hardware. It's been a year since I've drawn anything at all, so I'll have my work cut out for me.

And even considering the fact that I drew a little last year, it was just a brief phase that lasted a week or two. I've never gotten all that serious about drawing in the past, and the two drawings I produced last year represent a significant portion of the drawings I've made since I was in gradeschool.

I sort of felt motivated to share my drawings from last year, for documentational purposes if nothing else. They're just goofy little sketches that I made on a whim. I looked at art from "Katawa Shoujo" and "Kill Me Baby", and attempted to copy them as best as I could "by sight". I don't know that I'd call them "serious" drawings, since I didn't really put a lot of thought into the linework or shading (both of which I'm still basically clueless about, anyway), but I was at least pleased with myself at the time for not fucking up tor proportions toooooo badly. Both images have been uploaded here, so feel free to check them out if you're curious.

Anyway, this thing probably isn't going to be a daily blog or anything, and I don't predict I'll have much to say tomorrow (Sunday). In the meantime, I'm going to continue browsing art and getting to know the community while I await my new tablet. I'll post again as soon as I have something worth saying.

Thanks for stopping by,

The First Foot Forward (A Little Bit About Me)

2016-09-09 23:18:24 by Mirodim

2016/09/09・Day 1・"The First Foot Forward"

For as long as I can remember, drawing and making games have been two things that I've wanted to do on some level. Even back in my single-digits, I was drawing what were essentially stick figure comics. Early in my childhood, as I poured over the pages of Nintendo Power (this was back when Nintendo was still the shit), I knew deep down that I wanted to make games. Unfortunately, I eventually lost sight of doing what I love for a living.

When I first went to college in 2006, I chose to pursue a pre-med degree. I've always loved science, and I discovered that I especially loved chemistry once I began taking classes. The classes weren't hard at all, but I simply wasn't motivated to succeed outside of the really interesting courses like chemistry, biology, etc. Part of it may have been that I was young, stupid, and failed to realize that student loans are finite (and permanent). But I also think that part of me didn't really care about my future career in medicine. I liked the idea of being a doctor and knowing all kinds of cool shit, but I wasn't actually DRIVEN to make it happen.

So, here I am. Nearly 30 years old, less than two years of college credits under my belt, I can barely program, and I couldn't draw a mailbox to save my life. I'm back in college, at least; paying cash and studying Japanese part-time. I've also been studying programming on my own time lately, and I have a pretty decent grasp on the basics of C++. But as I'm approaching a point where I'll be able to make a real game (Not starting from scratch, for the record. Using Game Maker Professional for now.), my artistic handicaps are really starting to worry me. I aim to fix that the only real way there is... by drawing a bunch of shitty art, and then drawing slightly less shitty art until I'm able to make something that doesn't offend the senses.

I'm starting this blog today because I just invested in a decent drawing tablet. (An Intuos5 Touch Medium, which I practically stole off of eBay.) I'm not above making frivolous purchases that don't really amount to anything, but I really want this to be a turning point for me. The moment that tablet arrives, I'm going to start making art. And I'm not going to stop. I hope that some of you will choose to accompany me on my journey, and if I'm lucky maybe I'll make a few friends along the way.
